Jody MacDonald

MacDonald's practice is a merging of fact, fiction, and social satire. Her ongoing exploration of identity, hierarchies, and stereotypes is characterized by dark humor and an obsessive attention to detail. Her fastidiously crafted work has been exhibited in galleries and artist-run centers across Canada and the U.S. in both solo and group exhibitions. MacDonald's works on paper and sculptures belong in numerous private collections nationally and internationally. A graduate of the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, Canada, she recently presented a solo show of neo-baroque dioramas featuring the reimagined lives of carnival sideshow archetypes at SPRING/BREAK Art Show NYC 2024. In 2024, MacDonald received a NYSCA FY2024 Grant to expand an immersive, walk-in diorama featuring 1,000, ten-inch tall textile figures. She was awarded a 4-heads PORTAL creation residency on Governors Island in 2022, and in 2019, she received an Individual Artist Grant from the Queens Council on the Arts. MacDonald currently lives and practices in New York, NY.
