Glow is a series of delicate, glowing vessels of kiln formed glass.
Initial inspiration was taken from volcanic eruptions. The rough, pitted texture of the matt black glass with its glowing copper interior resembles volcanic rock and the glowing lava within. Experimentation with different coloured glass and metals has led to the introduction of 22ct Gold leaf being used with new colours expected shortly.
Made using the Pate de Verre technique, individual moulds are made for each piece. These are packed with a paste of crushed glass before the first of several kiln firings. The mould is then removed to reveal the delicate, eggshell thin glass vessel. Once the glass has been cleaned, sandblasted and sealed, many layers of metal leaf are applied to the interior – the reflective interior curves creating opportunities for light to bounce around and produce the ‘glow’.
