Ethereality is a series of unique kiln formed glass sculptures. Each comprises two opaque glass panels standing on a base of walnut or stone.
Made by carefully hand cutting sheet glass, each panel goes through several firings to achieve their final shape and form. Once fired various grinding and cold working techniques are used to finish the pieces. The final stage is sandblasting which removes the glassy shine to leave a matt/satin finish. This is used on one or both sides of each panel.
The delicate lace like design within the piece appears to disintegrate as holes form and puncture the once solid panels of opaque glass. The strands of these webs undulate gently, creating movement and depth while light dances through the apertures to cast shadows onto surrounding surfaces.
