As a Ghanaian visual artist, I use art as a tool for self-expression and to celebrate the beauty of Africans in the Diaspora. My paintings, sculptures, and mixed media works render portraits that reflect the identity, cultural values and daily life of Diasporans, speaking to the complex transnational identities of the African Diaspora. My art also has a special emphasis on honoring black beauty. Celebrating the rich complexion of black people, the subjects of my portraits are depicted with dark skin. I employ vivid colors and layered imagery, striking emotions and conveying a deep spiritual presence in the portraits I create. Having moved to the U.S. in 2017, my works often present portraits that reflect the diversity of African and American cultural representation, style and life while highlighting the joys of being Black.
