In her Mountains series, impressionistic landscapes transport one to dreamlike places that feel familiar, yet transformed and re-imagined. Mountain images have been a part of Cecilia Moy Fradet's vocabulary since childhood, as she watched her grandfather paint the terrain with sumi ink on paper. They stand monumental, strong and ancient, the closest one can reach to the heavens from earth. Placing familiar images with mountains acts as an exploration, a pilgrimage to connect with the awe-inspiring nature. Mountains serve as a symbol for incredible hope, and thus referenced in the title of the artist's first solo show "Dreams of Gold Mountain". The mountain symbol can also stand for what is impenetrable - an immovable obstacle - and many of the mountains in the series become a vehicle for transformation, inspiration and renewal.
