Joanna Ambroz Polish, b. 1993

Understatements and embarrassing thoughts.

Interested in current events and the pains and passions of friends and family, Joanna Ambroz focuses on the often absurd of modern society. Believing herself to be part of a generation rooted in a culture of constant self-improvement and a belief in the individual’s absolute ability to self-regulate and impact the world around them, she uses the self-portrait as a prop. In this way, she emphasizes the universality of human existence in the context of sensations and conflicts and initiates a dialogue on the contemporary condition of the individual. Using two colors: red and blue, she explores symbolic tensions, temperaments and conflicts. but also travels through harmony, reflection and mourning. Ever curious about the interaction of these colors and the contrast that represents an exchange between the intensity of impressions and the compulsion to block them out her work stands as a pathway towards acceptance of the duality of human complexities.
