"My personal work, which takes inspiration from various Artistic Masters, American, World and Black History, brings to the foreground my need to explore historical perseverance, pride, perspective, and affect. My paintings capture the interplay between time, place, circumstance, truth and consequence, between joy and pain, and between different forms of tolerance and understanding. My paintings often highlight texture and color. For example, one piece might be totally abstract yet shows how Jazz, The Modern Civil Rights Movement and Social Justice work hand in hand. Another body of work might be of stitched together works in the grand tradition of quilting, pairing the legacy and importance of rituals for African Americans as creative way to communicate information. Some might say my signature approach is collage where I piece together the celebration of some of The Worlds most storied Icons in one fell swoop. Each subject is truncated and layered with color and text; these abbreviated depictions focus on intangible snapshots and pivotal moments. The images seem simple, but they convey a mature gesture, thus reaching, stretching and pulling the viewer into a much deeper artistic experience. "
