Steven Rudin American, b. 1972

Steven Rudin is a visual artist, teacher, and retired psychiatrist based in New York City. His elaborate collages highlight the dynamic architecture of memory. Building on his background in art, psychotherapy, and linguistics, Rudin’s creative practice explores collage as a window into the way we process our experiences in parts and layers. Rudin’s lively exhibitions, talks, and classes inspire participants to visualize their inner lives as collage. He holds degrees from Columbia University, Cornell University, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Rudin's collage art has been featured in over 30 exhibitions including a solo presentation “Between a Painting and a Photograph” supported by DACRA in the Miami Design District as part of their Art Basel programming. His work has been showcased in international art fairs, notably Scope Miami Beach and Scope New York. Rudin has participated in prestigious artist residencies at ChaShaMa North, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, and the Clarinda Carnegie Art Museum. His work has been the focus of editorials in Contemporary Collage Magazine, Aspire Magazine, Brut Journal, and, most recently, the book Transformation: A Survey of Collage and the Development of Personal Language.
As a teaching artist and speaker, he has developed over 40 educational activities for both adults and children, including workshops and classes at renowned institutions like the Art Students League of New York, the Branch Museum of Art and Design, and the University Council for Art Education. Rudin offers a unique perspective on the psychology of the creative process, which has led to his frequent role as a guest lecturer. His teaching engagements include the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University, Hunter College, and the New York Film Academy.
