Manto/mantra work is a symbolic and artistic representation of the female experience through the concept of a cloak or garment. This cloak (manto) serves as a metaphor for the persona that women often adopt in society, hiding their true thoughts and emotions. The embroidered mantras represent the inner strength and determination that women can secretly cultivate.
This concept actually came from Silvana Soriano's experience where she kept my truths and mantras hidden until they manifested in reality. Including not only Soriano's own mantras but those of other women adds a collective and empowering dimension to the project.
The choice of colors, black on the outside and red on the inside, is rich in symbolism. Black can represent silence and concealment, while red means emotions and strength. This contrast effectively illustrates the inner world of women hidden behind a facade.
Soriano wants to allow people to interact with the mantle as it's a powerful way to engage audiences and get the message across more effectively. It invites them to connect with the experiences and truths it represents.
Overall, the “Mantle/Mantra” concept is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged representation of the female experience.
