The Contemporary Art Modern Project at VOLTA NY: A look at The CAMP's booth at the 2022 VOLTA NY Art Fair

18 - 22 May 2022

The visual goal of The CAMP's booth at VOLTA is to contrast the stark portraiture of Ghanian artist Idris Habib with the bright and vibrant collages of Silvana Soriano, the bursting colors of Franck de las Mercedes tied together by the geometric and colorful textile works of Evelyn Politzer.

Three of the featured artists use fabric in their works: Idris Habib paints on African fabrics, Silvana Soriano, in her collage works, both paints and uses fabric to dress her characters, and Evelyn Politzer painstakingly weaves color throughout her textile works creating beautiful objects and installations.

Franck de las Mercedes creates blooming bouquets against a stark black background focusing on the colors used and the abundance of a spectacular void to draw attention to the possibility of possibility in an urban life. The booth will look at these intriguing uses of textile and color and explore the different cultures and locations of the artists, while arguing both the richness of the textile arts and the use of color, as artists continually seek to create that unique artistic voice and practice.
